Legacy Scholarship Fund

The mission & philosophy.

Financial background should never be a ceiling for brilliance. The Legacy Fund ensures that the brightest minds always have a seat at Wajina — regardless of where they come from.

Strategic Vision

Perpetuating a legacy of excellence that is blind to socioeconomic status. Every naira donated creates a permanent seat for a child who deserves one.

LGAs Reached So Far
01

The Merit Scholarship

Awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance in our entrance examination. Merit scholars receive full tuition coverage and are re-evaluated annually to maintain their award. These students are often the brightest in their LGA — they simply need the door opened.

02

The Need-Based Grant

For families who meet academic requirements but face genuine financial hardship. A confidential assessment process evaluates family income, dependants, and circumstances to determine the level of support — from partial tuition relief to full sponsorship including meals and transport.

03

Community Champion Awards

Nominated by local leaders, churches, and community organisations across Benue State. These scholarships target children from rural areas and IDP settlements who would otherwise never access quality education. Each community champion is fully sponsored from creche or primary through to secondary completion.

04

The Endowment Model

The Legacy Fund is structured as a perpetual endowment. Principal donations are invested conservatively, and only the annual returns are used to fund scholarships — meaning every contribution funds students not just this year, but forever. A ₦10 million donation today will fund approximately one full scholarship per year in perpetuity.

05

Global Partnership Scholarships

Co-funded opportunities with international universities and corporate partners. Top-performing Wajina scholars can access sponsored pathways to universities in the UK, Canada, and the US — extending the scholarship journey beyond our own walls and into the global arena.

Common questions.

Through a combination of entrance examination results, a family financial assessment, and — for Community Champions — nominations from trusted local leaders. The process is transparent, confidential, and merit-anchored.

Full tuition, school uniforms, textbooks, stationery, daily meals, and — for students from outside Makurdi — transport support. The goal is to remove every financial barrier, not just the obvious ones.

Yes. Donors contributing ₦1.5 million or more annually can be matched with a named scholar and receive termly progress updates, academic reports, and an invitation to the annual Scholars' Evening.

The fund is managed by a board-appointed financial trustee. Principal is invested in low-risk instruments, and only the annual yield is disbursed as scholarships — ensuring long-term sustainability.

Absolutely. Corporate partners can fund named scholarship tiers, sponsor entire cohorts, or contribute to the endowment. All corporate contributions are acknowledged in our annual report and at institutional events.
